Anton (Toni) Filian, Age 86, of Marco Island, Florida, passed away on April 1st, 2023, after a long-fought battle with cancer.
Toni was born on August 7, 1936 to Jakob and Elisabeth (Hoffmann) Filian in Krndija, Yugoslavia (Croatia). He spent is youth in Linz, Austria playing soccer and studying to become a custom cabinetmaker. He immigrated to the USA in 1956 and met his soul mate, Margit (Dobler) who he remained lovingly devoted to until his passing.
Toni entered the US Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. He was a well-respected soldier and decorated soccer player for his army base. After he was discharged, Toni and Margit moved to Chicago.
After settling in the Northwest Suburbs, he became a very successful cabinet maker and business owner. His persistent pursuit of perfection not only drove his professional career but his love to improve his home. He was an early member of the Green White Soccer Club playing actively through the 1960s and then later becoming one of the Thursday Night Mens Social Club attendees. He spent his retirement in his "happy place" of Marco Island, FL where he was able to fulfill his love for fishing. Toni was devoted to family and friends. His kind heart has left many family and friends with a piece of his legacy in their home.
Toni will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Margit (Dobler), his son Harald (Kim)and daughter Diana (Dennis) his grandchildren, Jesse, Brenan, Benjamin and Isabel and brother Helmut.
Toni will be honored with a burial at sea and have his ashes scattered at his favorite fishing spot.
