Antje Ellen Smith, 82, Elkhart, died 2:43 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2023, at her son's residence in Osceola. She was born October 13, 1940 in Chemnitz, Germany, to Hans and Ellen C. (Schneider) Harzmann. On July 18, 1965 she married Charles "Tim" Smith, and he died November 27, 1992.
Surviving are 2 daughters Coleen Atkinson, Garrett, and Caroline (Eric) Brewer, Bristol, a son, Timothy (Beth) Smith, Osceola, 6 grandchildren, Andrew (Brittany) Smith, Ian (Bailey) Smith, McKenna (James) Fockler, Delaney Atkinson, Sophia Murray, Casey Murray, 8 great-grandchildren, Declan, Conor, & Finnigan Smith, Adler & Reiner Smith, Ellianna Atkinson, Grayson & Layton Fockler and 2 siblings, Angelika Harzmann and Katrina Harzmann both of CT.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Tim, and 2 siblings, Christine Tousignant and Isabella Corsini.
Antje met her husband Tim during his service while being stationed in Germany. They got married in Indiana soon after his discharge from the military. She was a CNA at Goshen Hospital helping with newborn babies and later in life was a Governess. She participated in Celebrate Recovery and Stephen's Ministry. She attended Crossroads Community Church and was a lifelong participant in children's ministry. Antje enjoyed cooking, baking, dancing, and loved all animals. Her German heritage was very important, and she enjoyed sharing with others. She loved spending time with family. She was a very loving person that impacted so many lives in a positive way.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m., with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, all at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. Pastor Marc Royer will officiate. Burial will follow at Olive (West) Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to tcrg.org.
