Mr. Anthony J. Corsini, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2021 surrounded by family at his Blairsville home after an extended battle with cancer. Tony was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 3, 1935. He spent two years in Italy from 1938-1940 when his parents returned to Brooklyn due to WWII. His formative years were spent in the embracing love of his parents and four siblings. Tony graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1953 and went on to become a draftsman at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during the construction of the USS Ticonderoga and USS Saratoga aircraft carriers. After marriage in 1959 to his beautiful wife, Dolores Pepe, they moved upstate to Gloversville NY where he ran a manufacturing business making Italian sauce and ravioli. Concurrently, he attended Albany State University where he majored in American Studies and minored in Biology. Tony received a bachelor's and master's degree and went on to teach at Gloversville High School for 29 years. He fostered a love of learning in his students who fondly referred to him as "Mr. C". Tony was voted "teacher of the year" multiple times. Each summer he enjoyed camping with his three children and later after retirement he traveled the world. Over the past 26 years, Tony and his wife have visited six continents and returned several times to Italy. He was fond of saying he was never bored or depressed because his interests would not allow it. He taught in the Oasis program at First Methodist Church, golfed at Butternut Creek, and enjoyed listening to opera and Broadway musicals. Anthony is survived by his wife, Dolores Corsini of Blairsville, three children and their three spouses, Major General (Retired) Maria Britt-Downs & Michael Downs of Blairsville, GA, pharmacists Eva and Todd Mendsen of Eatonton, GA, and Navy Commander Dr. Anthony & Vanessa Corsini of Tampa, FL. He leaves a legacy of ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Tony expressed hopes of meeting his immigrant parents again so he could thank them for the sacrifices they made to allow him and his family to enjoy this wonderful life that he lived. A private family service was held on May 13th at Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville. There will be a Catholic Mass on Sunday, May 30th officiated by Fr. Alejandro (Alex) Ayala at St. William's Catholic Church of Murphy, NC., followed by an Italian Celebration of Life well lived at his home. Special thanks to Dr. Elizabeth Wiles and her team of Blairsville Internal Medicine, as well as the care givers of Homestead Hospice. Donations in the memory of Anthony Corsini may be made to support scholarships for Union-Towns County students attending Mountain Education Charter High School, 1963 Tom Bell Rd, Cleveland, GA 30528. Tony often remarked that it is not the alpha and omega of birth and death that counted, only the way you lived the 'dash' in between. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements. You may sign the family guest book and send condolences online at www.mountainviewfuneralhome.com
