Annetta Carol (Denney) Neal ( Annetta wrote her own obituary several weeks before she passed away ) was born on Aug 17, 1950 in a small block rental house in Monticello, KY and passed away on Jan 20, 2021 in her home. She was the first child of Arvin Ray Denney and Opal Viola (Reno) Denney, who survive, and was a member of the Apostolic faith, according to Acts 2:38 & 39. On Jan 17, 1969, she married Reverend Roger Dale Neal and they had one daughter: Robyn Annette (Neal) Smith. Annetta felt, and said, many times, that she had married one of the best men who ever lived and had on of the most wonderful daughters a mother could ever have. She felt a relationship with God to be the most important thing in life. She enjoyed making homemade valentines for loved ones, collecting Gene Stratton-Porter books, and doing things for her grandchildren. She had an immense gratitude for every veteran and service person and made the effort to thank them, when she could. It was next to impossible for Annetta to pass up a child with a lemonade stand, or any other kind of sales stand, as she wanted to encourage their efforts. She was a Sunday School teacher for children for several years and loved music in the minor keys, when playing organ or piano, or just listening.
Following is a message, from Annetta, to all veterans, who read her obituary: "I would like to take this last opportunity to thank you for your service to our great country. It's because of people like you that we have the freedoms we enjoy today. It doesn't matter what branch of the service you were in, or where or how you served; the fact that you did serve is what is important to all of us. I appreciate every sacrifice you and your families have made in defense of America. Please know you are not forgotten and that what you did helped keep us free. I am certain that I speak for many others, as well as myself, when I say: THANK YOU. Dedicated to all veterans."
She is survived by her daughter, Robyn (William, Jr) Smith of Greenfield; grandchildren Catherine Smith of Morgantown and William Smith, III of Greenfield; brothers Lyle (Sharonda) Denney of Nashville, Dallas (Ruth) Denney of Straughn, and Jeffrey Denney of Monticello, KY. Brother-in-law, Victor (Tammy) Neal of Hagerstown and Jim (Lillian Davis) Neal; sister-in-law Rosemary Disbro of New Castle, and several cousins and beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Roger Neal and sister, Patricia (Wedge) Carter.
The family will have visitation from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Thursday January 28,2021 at Hendryx Mortuary Cumberland Chapel 11636 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46229. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions a private family funeral ceremony will be onFriday January 29,2021 at the funeral home at 12:PM.
