Anne Reed Smith, 92, of Salisbury, MD and formerly of Ft. Myers Beach, FL passed away on Good Friday, April 7, 2023. Anne was born on May 11, 1931 in Salisbury, MD. She was the daughter of the late Virginia and Millard Reed.
Anne attended schools in Wicomico County before attending Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA and graduating from Madison College, now called James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. After graduation from college, Anne returned to Salisbury and was an educator in Wicomico County. Anne met her future husband, Jack Paul Smith, while teaching an adult typing class at Wicomico High School. They were married for 63 years before Jack's passing in 2017. Anne was very musically talented and gave piano lessons to many students. She also participated in many productions performed by the Community Players of Salisbury, including The Sound of Music. She had a beautiful voice that was loved by many. Anne was both a tennis and golf enthusiast and after Jack's retirement, the two of them traveled extensively including several trips to The Championships, Wimbledon in London, England, The French Open in Paris, France and thirty plus years of consecutive attendance at the US Open Tennis Championships in Flushing Meadows, NY. Anne played in the Lee County Florida Doubles Tennis League. She was also a member of the Vines Golf Community as well as the Estero Country Club.
Anne was a former member of the St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury, MD, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Delmar, MD and St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, FL.
In addition to her parents, her three sisters and her husband, Anne was predeceased by her only child John Paul Smith. Anne is survived by numerous close friends and several nieces and nephews that will cherish the laughs, memories and love of Anne.
A Catholic Mass was held at 11:00am on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Bi-State Boulevard in Delmar, MD followed by interment at Parsons Cemetery on North Division Street, Salisbury, MD.
