Anne Newell Saunders, 80, of Gulf Shores, AL, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in Dacula, Georgia. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st at 2:00 pm at St. Andrew by the Sea at 17263 Ft. Morgan Rd., Gulf Shores, AL. Rev. George Myers will officiate. There will be a reception for family and friends prior to the service at 1:00 pm.
Anne was born in Stonewall, MS to Mary Alice and Charles Preston Newell on September 14th, 1940. She graduated from Starkville High in 1958 and attended Mississippi State College. On March 28, 1959, she married David A. Saunders, also of Starkville.
At 18, Anne became the youngest licensed Farm Bureau insurance agent in the state of Mississippi. She was a talented artist, a beloved friend, and a passionate volunteer.
A homemaker and mother of two, Anne was very involved in GFWC Woman's Club, serving as President of the Stone Mountain club in the early eighties. As a member and officer, she promoted civic and charitable efforts throughout the state of Georgia.
She was an avid volunteer throughout her life, leading fundraising for organizations like Stone Mountain's "Art Station", a creative outlet that fostered the artistic talent of children and young adults.
Anne and her husband were founding members of their church, St. Andrew by the Sea. She volunteered most recently to support the efforts of their choir.
Anne is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Alice Newell, and her daughter, Debbra Fowler. Anne is survived by her husband, David, her son David Jr. and his wife Sally, her brother Charles Newell and his wife Annette, her brother Jack Newell and his wife Charlotte, grandson Cris Fowler, granddaughter Jennifer Took and her husband Daniel, granddaughters Jordan and Regan Saunders, great granddaughters Ava and Stella Took and great grandson Ezra Took.
