Anne Marie Puglis, 90, passed away on January 28, 2020 at Life's Journey Hospice, Avon, Indiana. She was born in Paterson, New Jersey on July 29, 1929 to the late Nick and Santa Amari.
Prior to her death she resided in Bloomington, Indiana after moving from Indianapolis. Always with a desire for nursing, Anne returned to school on a scholarship to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN). After the passing of her husband, 8 years later she returned to school to become a registered nurse (RN) and graduated ceremoniously when she was 58 years old. She spent the majority of her career at Winona Memorial and St. Vincent's Hospitals in Indianapolis. After a long career as a compassionate and dedicated care provider, Anne (reluctantly) retired from nursing at the age of 80 due to declining health.
Anne found most joy in being surrounded by her family. Everyone she met became "family". Her favorite past time was cooking huge Italian meals for holidays, birthdays or no occasion at all. She took great pride in her appearance, coordinating clothes, purses, shoes and jewelry. Thursdays were her favorite days when she had her hair appointment (hair therapy) usually followed by a lunch outing and shopping trip. She prayed the rosary daily and contributed to many charitable organizations.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband Jim (1980), her loving partner Emerson "Gene" Gruber (January 2019), her baby sister Marie, and parents.
Anne is survived by her children, James Puglis, Jane Westdyke (Bill), Sandy Elsner (Tim), Annette Broderick and step-daughter, Carol Gosser (Kevin) and their family; her grandchildren Will (Megan), Sammi, Lauren (Aaron), Daniel (Riyako), Cristiaan; and great-grandchildren Angelina, Sofie, Chessney, Selena, Alyssa and Gavin.
