Anne was born in Wilson, NC on October 27, 1935, the daughter of the late Charles Gilbert Grady and Lavinia Green Grady and grew up in Four Oaks, NC. She graduated as valedictorian of Four Oaks High School in 1953 and attended Duke University, graduating in 1957 with a B.A. in Political Science; she wrote her senior thesis on the role of the United Nations in international relations.
She married the late George T. Hocker of Hummelstown, PA on July 5, 1958 and lived in Philadelphia while he finished medical school, then in Greensboro, NC, where he was an intern. Their first son, Fred, was born there on April 20, 1961. After his internship, the family moved to Norfolk, VA and then Mechanicsburg, PA while George was in the US Navy. Their second son, Gil, was born September 9, 1962 in Harrisburg, PA.
After George's naval service, the family moved to Leesburg, VA. Anne was very active in the church, as a founding member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and its secretary for many years. She also served as president of the church council.
She divorced in 1980 and shortly after moved to Raleigh, NC, where she worked for several employers, including NC State University, before going into business as a tax accountant, purchasing an H&R Block franchise. She moved to Clayton, NC, where she was a successful businesswoman, expanding to a second franchise before she retired.
She married Larry Reece on November 23, 1996. After retiring, they moved first to Myrtle Beach, SC and then Camden, SC in 2006. Anne was active in Grace Episcopal Church in retirement and enjoyed gardening, reading and travel with Larry until ill health limited her mobility.
