Anne Gurley Jennings, 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2022. She was born on August 8, 1948 in Spartanburg, SC, and was the daughter of the late Nathan Oland Gurley and Grace Louise Cooper Gurley. She was a graduate of Dorman High School and the proud class of 1966. She received an Associate's Degree in accounting from Cecil's Business College.
Anne is survived by her husband of 53 years, William Russell "Buddy" Jennings, daughter, Tracy J. Anderson Riley (Brad) and son, Dr. Tripp Jennings (Dawn); five grandchildren, Alayna Garrison (Kirk), Mac Anderson, Aiden Jennings, TJ Jennings, and Skylar Riley. She is also survived by a brother, Grayson O. Gurley and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Nathalia Fuller and son-in-law, Allan Anderson, III.
Anne worked as an accountant and business associate in the medical and construction industry for over thirty years. Together with her husband, she founded Impact Consultants, a governmental and public relations firm, in 2006 and served as President and CEO. She was a member of Chapin Presbyterian Church where she served faithfully for a number of years until her health declined. Her favorite pastimes included spending time with her children and grandchildren, living on Lake Murray, and traveling all over the country with her husband. She was a great ambassador for South Carolina and was generally recognized as the First Lady of Tourism when her husband was Director of the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. In 2016, she was awarded South Carolina's Greatest Grandmother Award, an honor that she cherished.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 12:30 at Chapin Presbyterian Church located at 600 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin, SC, 29036. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00-12:00 prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately at Newberry Memorial Gardens located at 15127 CR Koon Hwy., Newberry, SC, 29108.
