Anna Kinard Avant Hughes passed away Sunday, January 9th after a short battle with Congestive Heart Failure. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Hughes Williamson and son, Clay Kinard Hughes; their spouses, Jimmy and Shannon, and 5 grandchildren, Sarah Auburn and Kenneth McLean (Mac) Williamson, and Anna Claire, Eliza Kinard and Mary Anglin Hughes.
Anna was a graduate of East Carolina University and received a Master's Degree from Duke University. She taught second grade in Whiteville and Charlotte North Carolina, where she met her husband Sidney of almost 40 years, who preceded her in death.
Anna was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and First Presbyterian Women of the Church, as well as her Women's Church Circle. She was very active civically. She was a past President of the Children's Welfare League, a member of the Junior Vetust Study Club, the Asheville Symphony Guild, the 4 Seasons Garden Club and participated in a Sewing Group. She had been a member of Biltmore Forest Country Club since 1968. She loved nature and was an avid bird-watcher. Besides being with her family, her favorite place was The Pique', her beach house, at Holden Beach. Her passion for life, her love for her family, and kindness towards all people will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to the Children's Welfare League of Asheville P. O. Box 15425 Asheville, NC 28813. The funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Asheville March 5th at 11:00 a.m.
