Anna V. (Vandeventer) Burkhart, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, December 2, 2024 at her home in Nineveh.
Anna was born in Richmond, Kentucky on November 8, 1940 to the late Curtis and Nancy "Verlie" (Smith) Vandeventer. Anna attended Piney Grove School in Kentucky as a child. Her step-father, Lester Proffitt, gave her a solid foundation for life, instilling the importance of good morals and a love for keeping her hair long.
Anna loved being a wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. She loved spoiling her family through her exceptional cooking & baking. As her family grew older, Anna looked forward to holiday celebrations, where everyone would gather at her house, which brought lasting traditions and special meals including green bean casserole and her famous chicken and dumplings. Some of Anna's favorite memories involved taking her grandchildren to church and vacationing with them in Myrtle Beach. She was an avid fan of the Indiana Fever, Indiana University Basketball and the Indianapolis Colts. Later in life, Anna went to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin where she worked for 12 years and finally retired in 2003. Anna was a member of the Locust Grove Pentecostal Church in Brown County.
On February 27, 1957 she married her loving & devoted husband of 63 years, Offord Burkhart in Stilesville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2020. Anna was also preceded in death by her father, Curtis (Sadie) Vandeventer; mother, Verlie (Lester) Proffitt; siblings, Leona Shirkey, Melvin, Bonnie & Lloyd Proffitt, Lowell Vandeventer Sr., Evelyn Hubbard, Gene Vandeventer, Murell Proffitt & Charlene Wyrick.
She is survived by her children, Kimberly A. (Roger) Bradley & Offord "Gene" Burkhart, both of Nineveh; siblings, Jimmie (Marlene) Proffitt of Hamilton, OH, Sandra (Mike) Wonderly of Middletown, OH, & Darlene Johnson of Lily, KY; grandchildren, Jessica Harden of Nineveh, David Lee (Darla) Bradley of Nineveh & Offord Eugene (Debra) Burkhart of Franklin; great grandchildren, Cash Harden, Caleb & Corbyn Burkhart and Lilly & Emilee Bradley.
Bro. Jay Griffee will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
