Ann Marguerite Coon, lifelong resident of the Marion area passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Pioneer Golden Estates in Clare. She was 90.
Ann was born on April 25, 1934, at home in Middle Branch Township to Otis and Helen (Linsday) Michell. She grew up and attended Clark Country School before becoming a graduate of Marion High School. On July 14, 1951, she entered into marriage with George E. Coon, celebrating nearly 35 years together before his death in 1986. Ann was fortunate enough to spend time in her earlier years working with Riverside Electric, then working at Riverside Restaurant which she and her husband owned. Eventually, she became a CNA for the former Mercy Hospital in Cadillac before going on to spend years working as a paraprofessional for Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District where she was a valued member of the special education program, until her retirement in 1999.
Ann enjoyed flowers and often spent time tending to them all around her home. She was a long-standing member of the Tuesday Morning Coffee Club at the Flashback as well as an instrumental part to the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4087. She could often be found cheering and rooting on family at any one of the many kids' and grandkids' sporting events. Ann will surely be remembered for her faith and active role at the St. Agnes Parish, as part of the Altar Guild, Parish Council and even a time as organist. Ann will be deeply missed as the matriarch of her family and by the Marion community as a whole.
Ann is survived by her seven children, Anndrea (Howard) McCrimmon of Marion, Kathleen K. Jenema of Marion, Kevin Coon of Cadillac, Leisa (Michael) Ritzer of Evart, Marcella "Marcie" (Kevin) Bennett of Marion, Michelle (Michael) Thompson of Cadillac, and John (Cindy) Coon of Midland; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Fran; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Coon; two sons, George Jeffrey Coon and Stephen Coon; her sister, Alice Mary; two brothers, Ronald and Max; and three grandchildren.
Visitation for friends and family will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, June 17, 2024 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Marion. A vigil service will conclude the evening at the Church on Monday at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 18th, also at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. She will be laid to rest alongside her family at Greenwood Cemetery.
