Ann Dixon McClain of Franklin, IN, formerly of Manchester, CT, 84, passed away Friday, October 25, 2019, from heart disease while fighting the flu. She proudly donated her body to Indiana University.
Ann was born April 18,1935 in Salem, NJ, to George Parker and Margaret Dixon. She attended Woodstown High and graduated from Franklin College with a degree in Journalism. There she met John N. McClain while singing in the college choir. Ann and John were married in 1958 and celebrated 51 years of marriage before John's death in 2009.
Ann was a talented singer and organist. She was Minister of Music at Community Baptist Church, Manchester, CT, for 35+ years, and First Baptist Church in Franklin, IN, throughout her retirement.
Ann was a long time member of the Hartford Chorale and later Matinee Musicale in Indiana, among others. She was devoted to her church life, sat on many boards and committees, belonged to many clubs and circles, and was an officer for the American Baptist Women's Convention. She regularly participated in Green Lake Music Conference and founded a music camp at Camp Wightman in CT.
She had a life long enthusiasm for words, especially Scrabble. She joined a Scrabble Club wherever she was. In recent years she enjoyed competing in spelling bees. She didn't enjoy correcting people's grammar, but it had to be done.
Ann is survived by three daughters, Beth Bardot of Omaha, NE, Susan McClain (Bruce) of Manchester, CT, and Sarah Jaworski (Stephen) of Bolton, CT; grandchildren Katherine Pitt (Wesley), Stephen Bardot, Evan, Grace, and Ryan Jaworski. She was delighted by her great grandchildren Leo and Clara Pitt. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Sarah Unzicker (William).
Ann had many devoted friends whom she cherished, and spending time with them gave her great joy.
She was predeceased by her husband John and brother John Parker Dixon.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Wright Memorial Chapel at Otterbein SeniorLife Community, 1070 W Jefferson St., Franklin, IN 46131 with a luncheon to follow.
