Ann May Justus, 96, of Wimberley, passed peacefully on November 2, 2021, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by parents Jim and Dot May, brother James May, Jr., and husband Ed Justus.
Ann was born in Texarkana, Texas, and grew up Washington, Arkansas. She married Ed Justus of Batesville, Arkansas in 1948 and her only child, Lynne, was born the next year.
Second only to her love of family, was Ann's love of teaching. She graduated from Arkansas College and received her Master's in Chemistry at University of Virginia. Teaching chemistry and working with students was her passion. Through her teaching, she influenced many lives. She taught at Hope High School in Hope, Arkansas and Camelback High School in Phoenix, Arizona. During her over 3 decades of teaching at Camelback High, Ann received many awards and in 1987, Ann was recognized as the Outstanding Science Teacher in the nation. Many of her students won State Science Fairs and attended the International Science Fair for 18 years in a row.
When speaking at National Honor society inductions or other ceremonies, Ann became known for her signature phrase "There's no such thing as a free lunch". She worked hard to be the best teacher possible and expected the same work ethic from her students.
Her grandchildren, Matthew Edleson and Jentry Edleson Meissner, were a great source of pleasure to their Grammy. Her great-children, Amelia and Ellie Meissner, Gavin and Jaxon Edleson were a great source of pride.
Ann loved watching the antics of her dog George, and delighted in the peaceful, loving home she shared with Lynne and son-in-law, Rob.
