Ann Godwin Edgerton entered into her Heavenly home on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at her home surrounded by the love and warm embraces of her family. She was born in Johnston County to the late Wade and Lillie Mae Godwin on February 4, 1932. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Retired MSgt Robert Lee Edgerton; son, Donald Edgerton; her infant great-grandchildren, Charlie Gordon and Taylor Stahl; and sisters, Ruth Collier and Betty Sue Godwin.
Working as a school bus driver while living in Washington, DC, Ann continued employment utilizing her skills as a seamstress when returning to Goldsboro. Working as a seamstress with Leder Brothers and in sales at the Cloth Barn, Ann used her knowledge and talents to assist many in the area. She continued working at Creative Sewing Center in Goldsboro until her retirement.
Not only was Ann skilled as a seamstress, she was an excellent baker. Beautifully decorated cakes were created for any occasion from holidays to weddings. Anyone in need of a cake knew to call Ann for the absolute best.
Alongside her husband, Ann was a member of the Goldsboro Optimist Club where she served as their president. Always active in the various activities of the club, she was a constant source of help when it was time for the annual Christmas tree sale.
As a charter member of Eagle Heights Baptist Church, Ann worshiped her Lord faithfully. In later years, she began attending New Life Baptist Church where she continued worshiping and witnessing alongside her Christian sisters and brothers. Above all else, Ann loved serving the Lord.
With a heart for children, Ann played the role as an adopted grandparent for many children in her community. She dedicated time and attention to many children of military families, hoping to spread her love to all she met. In her own family, she made sure to take interest in every event in which they were involved. Her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were prized in her eyes, and she beamed with joy over the blessings she received as being the matriarch of her clan.
