Ann Cecelia Whybark Braithwaite, 81, passed away in Dallas on December 9, 2021, at the age of 81. She was blessed to be surrounded by her family in her final days, where she sang her favorite show tunes and hummed along to Christmas carols while smiling and holding hands.
She is survived by her husband Garlan Braithwaite of Dallas, daughter Laura Clyatt Schultes (husband Bruce) of Dallas, son Phillip Braithwaite (wife Tam) of Austin, daughter Ellen Braithwaite of Houston, grandchildren Travis Braithwaite, Joseph Clyatt, and Lauren Braithwaite, step-grandchildren Max Schultes of Seattle, Baylor Schultes of Dallas, and sister Jean Burnett of Sonoma. She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Willis Whybark of Dallas.
Ann was born November 7, 1940 in Dallas. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, where she was Captain of the Drill Team. She graduated the University of Oklahoma class of 1962. At OU, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. She was an English major, later becoming a schoolteacher. She eventually passed on her love of books to her children and friends.
Ann and Garlan married in 1962. They lived across the country, from Texas to Rhode Island while birthing and raising their three children. They were blessed in their 59 years together, enjoying each other's company while traveling the world with friends and family. Ann was a club champion tennis player, continued to be active with her Theta sisters, Northwood Woman's Club, and her garden club. Her favorite things to do were work in her yard, lunch with friends, and spend time with family. She worked 25+ years at a veterinarian clinic nurturing her lifelong love of dogs and cats. All God's creatures could count on Ann to take them in and provide a loving home.
The family extends its gratitude to the many caregivers who aided Ann, especially Sandra Glen, the staff at Sunrise Senior Living (particularly Princess Jarbo) and Faith Presbyterian Hospice, and the many friends who offered their unconditional love and support.
If you choose to honor Ann's life, the family suggests donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or Patriot PAWS Service Dogs...or take in a stray, hug a pet, or share a glass of wine and laugh with a loved one!
A memorial service will be held in her honor at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, TX 75254, on June 25th, 2022 at 2pm.
