Anita Marie Richards (nee Laney) passed away peacefully on the evening of August 18, 2022, at the age of 90 on the seventieth anniversary of her marriage to Harold Arthur Richards Jr., who preceded her in death on June 2, 2007. Anita was born October 5, 1931, and was a lifelong resident of Akron, OH. Anita loved board games and was a merciless RISK player and diabolical SCRABBLE competitor. She enjoyed travelling cross-country with her husband in their motor home.
She is survived by her children Harold (Sandra) Richards, Vicki (James) Reese, John (Carole) Richards, and Beverly (Mike) Richards. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia (Gene) Mazur. She has eight beloved grandchildren: Harold (Jen) Richards, Brett (Mary) Richards, Michael (Susan) Gellner, David Gellner, Alisha Mazur, Michelle (Chris) Conrad, Don (Sarah) Yates, and Felicia Richards and many great grandchildren.
Anita was the daughter of James and Mildred Laney. She was preceded in death by her brothers Bob (Delores) Laney and Jack (Randy) Laney, her sister Caroline (Herb) Gallo, and sisters-in-law Lois (Walter) Shuey, Doris (Howard) Pettman, and Phyllis (Dick) Blake. She is survived by her many nephews, nieces, and cousins. The family is especially grateful to cousin Linda Shuey for her years of kindness, compassion, and companionship to Anita.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Danbury Senior Living Memory Care Unit in Tallmadge for their years of care and support in her later life. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Summa Akron City Hospital for their generous and considerate end-of-life care.
No flowers please. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa, 444 North Main Street, P.O. Box 2090, Akron, OH 44398-6153. A private family memorial will be held at a later date at Hillside Memorial Park. Cremation and services have been entrusted to Adams Mason Funeral Home.
