Andwed L. Burns was called from labour to reward on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Andwed L. Burns, affectionately known as Rat and Uncle Paw Paw, was born September 3, 1942, in Innis, Louisiana. Andwed attended Batchelor High School and graduated in the class of 1960. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and fought in the Vietnam War. While serving our country, he was employed as a jet engine mechanic. After serving in the Air Force, he returned to Innis, Louisiana and became co-owner of a gas station and soon after was hired by Honeywell/PCS, as a process operator and first responder. During this time, he reconnected with his classmate and best friend, Audrey Vercher and their longtime friendship blossomed into love and they were married July 14, 1972. To that union, one child was born, Andrelle LaShawn, who preceded him in death in August 2021. Andwed retired from Honeywell in 2000, and after a short rest period, he worked his last, but most enjoyable job with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation where he worked for 19 years, alongside his work partner, Gloria Chapman. Andwed was baptized by the Reverend Charles T. Smith and quickly immersed himself in the works of the Lord. He was a dedicated member of Usher Ministry #2, the food ministry and brotherhood. At one point, he became his Pastor and Brother-in-law's chauffeur and they traveled in and out of state to revivals where Pastor was preaching. Andwed developed kidney disease early in life; however, he received a gift of a kidney from an unknown donor at Tulane University in 2011 which served him well until this time and we are forever grateful. Andwed was the kindest and caring person you could have known. He loved helping people and doing for others. He was an awesome husband and father. "We loved you, but God loved you best. He is forever in our hearts." Andwed leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife, Audrey Vercher Burns, two devoted aunts, Catherine Lea and Clara S. Wells; uncles Isadore (Barbara) Brown, Willie Brown of Baton Rouge and Percy (Rita) Brown of Los Angeles; sisters, Jacquelyn Wells, Willie M. Wright, and Evelyn Randall; godson, Gerald Wayne Kimball and goddaughters, Kanetra Holmes Smith and Shana Thomas; brothers and sisters-in law, Harry (Pat) Brady, William (Mary) Vercher, Reverend Russell (Gwen) Polar, Ella (Robert) Davis, Gloria Summers; bonus grandchildren, Kiera York, Kirklon Preston, Colston Pittman and Donovan Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews and first cousins. Viewing will be from 10:30 a.m. until services @ 12:00 noon. on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 @ Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 185 Eddie Robinson Sr. Dr., Baton Rouge, LA.
