Andrew Clement Ramsey, 97, of Marietta, Georgia, died at his home Monday morning, June 13. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia; sons, Gary and Dick; daughter, Jean Peachey; son-in-law, Crist Peachey, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Payne Ramsey.
Born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, the son of Jessie and Emma Ramsey, he served as an army sergeant in WW2, was awarded a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He attended N.C. State on the GI bill and married Frances Ramsey in 1950. They moved to Marietta in 1953, where he was worked for Lockheed as an industrial engineer; started Mutual Service Corporation, a financial advisory firm; was an active real estate investor, and later owned the Marietta Motel and Fireside Restaurant.
As a business owner, he was active in Rotary, joined the Kiwanis Club of Marietta Golden K in 1994, and was president from 2001-2002. He helped found their annual charity golf tournament, a major fund-raising event with proceeds going to needy children. He was a deacon in First Presbyterian Church of Marietta and was an avid golfer and woodworker. He will be remembered for his optimism, caring heart, love of nature, and enduring commitment to friends and family.
In 2010, he married Cecelia Golightly. They lived in Marietta and Blue Ridge, Georgia and enjoyed traveling, gardening, and sharing time with friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21 at the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, from 4-6 p.m. at Mayes Ward Funeral home.
