Andrew Francis Nixt was born July 14, 1932 at the rural home of his parents, Louis F.
and Anna Marzen Nixt and passed away on July 17, 2022 surrounded by his family and
loved ones. He attended grade school at St. Mary’s in Roseville and then graduated
from high school in Marble Rock in 1950.
He married Marcella Huffman on November 5, 1952 at the Immaculate Conception
Church in Charles City. This November marks 70 years. To this union three children
were born: a daughter Ellen Hart Beckwith, daughter Linette (Lindee) Brauer, and son
Curtis.
Andrew served with the armed forces from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed at Fort Bliss,
Texas and Fort Mott, New Jersey. After his tour in service, he established a dairy farm
east of Greene where he’d milk cows for the next 40 years and keep farming another
30.
He was a member of St. Mary’s of Greene, The Knights of Columbus, and the American
Legion.
He was an avid reader and often brought home from the library a dozen books at a
time. He particularly enjoyed westerns but had discovered his son’s Nick Carter
collection and had read over 30 books in recent months.
Andrew loved to fish and shared that passion with his son and grandkids. He taught all
eight of his grands to fish. No tackle was too twisted for Grandpa to fix!
Andrew was a lover of trees and planted a tree in honor of each of his grandchildren. He
particularly enjoyed watching the two grow together throughout the years. In lieu of
flowers, contributions to the Andrew Nixt Tree Fund are being received at: P.O. Box
219, Greene, Iowa 50636.
He is survived by: his loving wife Marcella; daughter Ellen of Grimes (whose husband
Michael Hart passed two weeks prior) and their children Andrew (his namesake), Alex,
Scott, Dalton, Brandon and Tana; daughter Lindee, her partner Steve Cox of Colorado
Springs and their children Kaitlan, Kyle, Justin and Tommy; and son Curtis, his wife
Lynn and their two girls Haley and Jenna who all reside in the Des Moines/Ankeny area.
He’s predeceased by his beloved cat, Sassy.
