Andrew A. "Drew" Balog, 76, of Ligonier, Pennsylvania and Bonita Springs, Florida, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Lee Memorial Health System-HP in Fort Myers, Florida. Born February 15, 1944 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Andrew Balog and Clara M. (Zorn) Balog. He is survived by his longtime companion, Susan Wagner. Drew was a 1962 graduate of Duquesne High School where he lettered in all sports. He spent his summers lifeguarding at the Kennywood pool as well as playing basketball at various city courts. Drew was drafted into the Army two days after graduating from Eastern Kentucky University and proudly served as a military policeman. Drew spent seven years teaching and serving as golf coach at James Madison University. Before retirement in 2008, he worked as a teacher and coach in the Pittsburgh Public School system for 27 years. Drew cherished his days as a teacher and coach, always speaking of wonderful memories and special students. After retirement, he worked part-time at Laurel Valley Golf Club, which kept him close to the game of golf that he loved so much. Drew was shooting his age less than a month before his passing. Drew was a great guy who could tell a good story and make you laugh. Those who were lucky enough to know him will miss him deeply. Drew enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling with his beloved Susan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Bonita Springs, Florida. Due to COVID restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
