Andrew "Andy" Edward Hudalla Jr. was born on September 27, 1945, the son of Andrew Sr. and Thelma (Lange) Hudalla of Manchester, New Hampshire. His family later moved to rural Long Prairie. Andy graduated from Browerville High school in 1964. He moved with some buddies to Crookston and worked as a farm hand until he enlisted in the United States Army in the fall of 1965. He was stationed in Germany from 1966 to 1967 and based in Pleiku, Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He was a truck and track mechanic of the 7th Army 14th Infantry Division. After returning home from the military, he started working for Hoffman Engineering/Federal Cartridge from 1968- 1978. In 1969, Andy married Joan Witt, on October 4, 1969, in St. James Catholic Church in Randall, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with two children, Kim and Chet. In 1978, Andy and Joan moved "home" and began building their hobby farm on a parcel of land purchased from Andy's dad. Using his carpentry skills and passion for construction, Andy, along with many friends and family members, transformed the untamed acreage into the "Lil Pig Horn Ranch." Understandably, Andy's first job "back home" was working as a carpenter for Gary Gilbert and Bill Bass from 1978- 1983. Andy retired after working at Central Bi-Products as a maintenance man in 2007 when he exhausted CBI's supply of duct tape and silicone. When Andy wasn't working or maintaining his vegetable garden and farm, he enjoyed hunting and trolling for "snoots" with the only fishing lure anybody ever needed, a red and white daredevil. Anytime Andy and others had time to sit down around anything resembling a table, it was time to bring out the dice box and "roll some bones". More recently, Andy enjoyed bus trips to the casino where he hoped to "make a buck". Andy was an active member of the Christ the King Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Browerville VFW Post 8391, a member of the Long Prairie Legion Post 12, and a member of the Browerville VFW-Legion Honor Guard. He was an active member of AA groups in Todd county, finding strength to fight in the comradery of the groups and their meetings. One of Andy's favorite things to do was to attend and support his children and grandchildren's activities. He was their number one fan. This kind man known to "all you dudes" as Gramps, Papa, Drew, Bibs, Rev, Butch, or Hooley, will be deeply missed by all but his endless wisdom will be cherished forever. "What the peace?!" "Peace on it!" "Go nuts!" On Thursday, January 13, 2022, after a brief battle with Cancer, Andy passed away at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan; children, Kim (Ken) Krugman of Sartell, Chet (Jen) Hudalla of Swanville; grandchildren Jackson, Amelia, Lydia, and Addison; siblings, Gloria (Gary) Gunderson, Jeff (Diane) Hudalla, Cary (Debbie) Hudalla, Terry Hudalla; Roger (Sue) Sampson; godchild, Cody Gunderson. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, David Hudalla, Becky Hall, Red Hudalla, Fleury Karolus and Bone Hudalla; Grandson, Andrew Doty; God Child, Terri Karolus. A mass of Christian burial took place on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville. Inurnment immediately followed at the Church Cemetery. Arrangements for Andy are with the Iten Funeral Home of Browerville, Minnesota.
