Andre was proud to be an "American by Choice". He was born in Belgium on February 8, 1932 and raised in France by his parents, Berthe and Marcel Germilhac. As a child he endured the Nazi occupation and celebrated the liberation by the American and Canadian troops. After serving his military duty as a paratrooper in the French Army, he emigrated to the United States in 1956.

Andre quickly learned the English language, took online classes in drafting and later graduated from McComb Community College with a degree in design engineering. His career was spent in the automotive industry at General Motors, Ford, and finally in the supplier industry, first as a draftsman and later in sales and product management. He served as president of A.S.B.E. (the American Society of Body Engineers) in 1985. Andre retired from Textron Automotive Division in 1995.
On retirement, he and his wife, Myra moved to Tellico Village, Tennessee. He never tired of expounding the virtues of Tennessee and the wonderful lifestyle they experienced in their home on the 18h hole of the Toqua Golf Course. Andre and Myra were both avid bowlers and golfers and vacationed at various golf resorts around the world.
