Amy S. (Kennett) Jenkins, 72, of Charlestown, New Hampshire passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Covenant Living in Keene, New Hampshire after a lengthy battle with dementia. She died peacefully surrounded by family.
She was born in Ware, Massachusetts, March 11, 1952, the daughter of Alden T. and Mabel A. (Pollard) Kennett. She grew up in Bethel, Maine attending Gould Academy and graduating from Telstar High School in 1970. She received an associate's degree in nursing from Westbrook College in 1972 and bachelor's degree in psychology from Keene State College in 2006.
After her time at Westbrook, she quickly became head nurse at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. As a registered nurse of 43 years, she worked in several hospitals and had multiple specialties including Kidney Transplant, Oncology and ER medicine. Most of her career, however, was spent as the school nurse at Fall Mountain Regional High School in Langdon, New Hampshire from 1988-2015. She found her time at Fall Mountain to be the most rewarding part of her career. Amy created the Peer Outreach program, trained faculty, and students in CPR and first aid, lead blood drives for the students and community, enjoyed traveling with students on the annual band trips, and even a few trips to Europe. She truly enjoyed having a strong connection with the students of Fall Mountain.
Amy, a kind and nurturing woman leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and could always be counted on to lend an ear and provide support to anyone. Her passion for gardening, bird watching, watercolors, and shopping was only surpassed by her commitment to her family. She enjoyed trips to Florida, and cruising with her husband Jim, long talks, and laughter with her daughter Beth, walks and gardening with her son Mike, and annual "girl trips" with her family and friends.
Amy is survived by her husband of 51 years, James E. Jenkins of Charlestown, NH; her daughter Beth E. (Jenkins) Pijanowski and her husband John of Medway, MA; her son Michael L. Jenkins of Charlestown, NH; her grandchildren Brian J. and Blake A. Pijanowski of Medway, MA; her sister Ellen L. Fisher and her husband Burns of Hollis, NH; her brother Edward A. Kennett and his wife Robin of Hanover, ME; and many other relatives and dear friends.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the kind and skilled staff at Covenant Living in Keene, NH. They took great care of Amy exhibiting love, patience, and kindness over the last nine months but especially in Amy's final days.
A memorial will be at the First Congregational Church of Walpole, 15 Washington Street, Walpole, NH on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 11:00 am, followed by a reception at The Sumner House in Charlestown, NH from 12:30-2:30pm. A private burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, New Braintree, MA in the spring.
