Washington D.C. Government Investigations and White Collar Defense partner for Nixon Peabody, Alycia Anne Ziarno n?e Farley passed away after an 11 year battle with breast cancer on May 7, 2022 in Tampa, Florida at the age of 59.
Alycia is survived by her parents, Eleanore Farley in Bluffton, South Carolina and Laurence Farley in Vero Beach, Florida; her devoted husband Joseph Ziarno, beloved daughter Emma Ziarno in Tampa, Florida and sisters, Ellen Lagasse and Elaine Farley along with her sweet puppies Jingles, Zoey and Gidget.
Alycia was born in New York City, New York. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Syracuse University College of Law in 1996. She began her career with Nixon Hardgrave in Rochester, New York continuing on as a law clerk for federal judges in Rochester and Honolulu, Hawaii returning to Nixon Peabody in Washington D.C. eventually being named partner in 2017. Alycia married Joe Ziarno in 2000 and gave birth to their beloved daughter Emma in 2005.
Alycia was a gracious, strong warrior, dedicated mother, sister, daughter, friend, and colleague. She relentlessly advocated for family, clients and friends through thick and thin while being deeply passionate about seeking, finding and speaking the truth. She was an outspoken advocate for early breast cancer detection and screenings. When her military husband transferred to Tampa in 2009 she was a trend-setter in remote and hybrid work traveling to her office in D.C. while attending meetings globally in Europe and Asia without missing a beat. Alycia was tireless working through an often unpredictable illness with good humor maintaining an "I can't stop, won't stop!" attitude carrying on with gusto in spite of any medical setbacks; she loved hosting and decorating for the holidays, supporting and watching Emma's piano recitals, traveling on cruises, visiting luxurious hotels in beautiful locations, living and enjoying each moment. Alycia lived fully until her very last day, working in spite of her illness, and most recently going on a ski trip and cruise with Emma and Joe.
A celebration of her life is scheduled for May 22, 2022 at The TradeWinds in St. Petersburg, Florida and a funeral will be held at a later date to be determined at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C. with a reception to follow at Nixon Peabody. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Alycia's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Boston Children's Hospital. Condolences can be sent to Emma and Joseph Ziarno.
