Alvin L Hall born on November 5, 1932 in Dayton Ohio. Husband of Cherie Carter Hall and the former husband of Nancy Hall of Conway. Survived by sons, Marc and wife Renee, David and husband Chaco, and daughter Michelle and partner Randy, all of Myrtle Beach. Predeceased grandchild was Jacob Gagnon.
Retired as Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Coastal Carolina University. He taught foreign languages and was previously at USC in Columbia, U of Georgia and U of Northern Iowa. He also held teaching positions in Israel, Switzerland and Germany.
Serving in the United States Army, he graduated from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California and served as a translator with the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. and Fort Meade, Maryland. With a doctorate in foreign language education from the U of Georgia, he also studied at Ohio State, Princeton, the Sorbonne and the U of Saarbruecken.
He was a former member of Temple Shalom in Myrtle Beach. Services will be private.
