Judge Alvaro T. (Balo) Garza, age 81, passed away July 10, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. He was surrounded by his wife and immediate family as he went to be with his Lord and Savior.
Balo is reunited in heaven with his children, Marleni Erica and Alvaro Rene. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, MariaElena (Nena), granddaughter Marleni Renae', and son Kevin, from a previous marriage. Daughter Valerie, son in law Bobby and children, Ella, Zophie, Zane and Analeya. Brothers Abelardo, Amando, Alberto and Arturo. Lastly, his dearest companion and faithful friend, Maximus Doggus, who stayed with him until his passing.
Balo was born on November 11, 1940, in Laredo, Texas. He graduated from Martin Highschool, class of 1959. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from St. Mary's University with a PhD in Jurisprudence in 1970. His career began as an ADA in Bexar County. He was 1 of the founding Attorney's of MALDEF and youngest District Director of EEOC in San Antonio. Balo eventually opened his Private Law office in Laredo, Tx. Balo was appointed by President Clinton in 1994 as a Federal Administrative Law Judge in San Antonio, Tx.
Balo was a highly intelligent and respected man who had many accomplishments in his life. The Entombment will held at Mission Burial Park North at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Chapel at 11:30 a.m. 285 Oblate Drive, San Antonio, TX 78216.
