Alton Ray Immel of Fredericksburg passed away on Friday February 26th at his home at the age of 79 years. Alton was born January 27, 1942 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Clemens and Viola Klein Immel.
Alton is survived by his wife: Jane Evers Immel, children and their spouses: Steven and Donna Immel, Stuart and Dana Immel, Leslie (Immel) and James Krieg all of Fredericksburg.
He is also survived by five Grandchildren: Dalton Immel, Katelyn Immel and her fianc? Edward Williams, Cory Immel, Lane Wallendorf, and Jenna Kate Wallendorf
He is also survived by siblings and their spouses: Lyndon and Barbara Immel of Fredericksburg, Jerri and Bobby Smedley of Fredericksburg.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents.
In 1946 the family moved to the Imperial Valley of California to join Clemens' brother Alvin Immel in the farming and livestock business. The family moved back to Fredericksburg to continue farming and ranching in 1956. Alton graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1959 and graduated from Southwest Texas State in San Marcos with a degree in Agriculture Education. He married Jane Evers on July 22, 1962. They moved back to California to join his uncle Alvin again in the livestock business.
In 1967, Alton was drafted into the U.S. Army. After basic training, he was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston for medic training. He was selected to work in the Veterinary Corp. and stationed at The Presidio in San Francisco, CA. After completing his military duty in 1969, Alton and Jane, along with their twin boys Steven & Stuart, returned home to Texas continuing to farm and ranch.
Through the years Alton, along with his sister Jerri Smedley, brother-in-law Bob Smedley and sons Steven and Stuart, raised Cattle, Sheep and Pigs on the family ranches, which have proudly been designated as 100 year family ranches by the State of Texas. His true passion was farming, ranching and family.
In 1982 Alton joined his brother Lyndon in the car business. Together they ran Immel Motors for 33 years selling Ford, Dodge and GMC. They were honored as Grand Marshalls in the Fair Parade in 2015.
Alton also served as a Director of the Hill Country Memorial Hospital Board from 1991-1993.
Alton enjoyed working with his family in their businesses, grandchildren, Friday lunches with his friends James and Ray and his lifetime of farming and feeding livestock.
The family greeted friends from 1:30 to 3 P.M. at the Greenwood Gazebo on Friday, March 5th with Graveside Services at 3 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be given in his memory to the Hill Country Memorial Hospice, FISD Education Foundation or to the charity of your choice
The family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the caregivers with Hill Country Hospice, Denise, Rebecca, Laura, Theresa, and Rikki.
