Alma Lou Tatum Pierce of Winters died Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born on May 4, 1929, the daughter of Allie and Barney Tatum. She grew up in Winters, TX and was a proud member of the Greatest Generation. She grew up working in the cotton fields alongside her brothers, developing a strong work ethic at a young age. On January 4, 1948 she married Varnell Pierce and they had two children, Terrell Pierce and Brenda Pierce Gainey.
Alma Lou Pierce was a lifelong Baptist and while living in Monahans, she enjoyed working with children in Bible School, Sunday School, and even helped sew dresses for some of the GA's. She helped with Girls Scouts and was a member of various Booster Clubs. She was always supporting her children.
Alma is survived by her two children: Terrell Pierce and Brenda Pierce Gainey; grandchildren: Justin Pierce, Sandra Gainey, and Paige Gainey; sisters: Mildred Redmon and Peggy Brent; brothers: Clyde Tatum, JD Tatum, and Don Tatum; and sisters in law: Annie Pierce and Nadine Kute.
In addition to her parents, Alma Lou is preceded in death by her husband, Varnell Pierce; her brothers: Dub, John, Jim, and Douglas Tatum; brothers in law: Tom Kute, Jack Pierce and wife Loretta, and Vollie D Pierce.
Services for Mrs. Alma Pierce will be on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winters, TX with burial following at Northview Cemetery. Visitation will be held the same day from 11:00 to 12:00 at the First Baptist Church in Winters under the direction of Winters Funeral Home.
