Allen E.Turner, age 86, of Voss, died Monday, April 26, 2021. Visitation is Thursday from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman, and burial in the Voss Cemetery.
Allen was born in Coleman, Texas, on June 13, 1934, t0 Fred and Shana Turner. He graduated from Mozelle HS, and received a BS and Master's degrees from Texas A&M. Allen played for the Aggie baseball team, was a welter-weight boxing champion, and was on the livestock judging team. On June 8, 1957 he married Nanallene Miller. She preceded him in death on February 27, 2021.
After college, Allen was employed by Shirley Livestock Commission. He then worked for the Texas A&M Extension service from 1957-1988, as an Assistant Agent in Wichita Falls and Taylor Counties, as a County Agent in Menard, Runnels and Tom Green Counties, and as District 7 Agent in San Angelo. He retired from the Extension Service in 1988 with 34 years of service, and went to work at the First Coleman National Bank from 1990-2014. He then retired from banking and began ranching full-time.
Allen was a past president of Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers' Association, received the TSGRA County Agent of the Year Award, and the Superior Service Award from the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. In 2020 he received the TSGR Earwood Award. Allen was a member and deacon of Gouldbusk Baptist Church.
Allen is survived by his children Melissa Faubion and husband Cliff, Lanny Turner and wife Cheri, Janelle Turner, Raenese Byrom and husband Randy, Brenda Conway, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren . Allen is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ermanelle Penny, and several beloved nieces and nephews and special family friends.
