Allen Irving Rubin, 92, passed away on March 16, 2021 at Bay State Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1928 in Springfield, MA to Paul and Isabelle Rubin. Allen grew up in the Winchester Square area of Springfield, where his father owned a restaurant, the Windsor Court. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1946. After high school, Allen served in the US Army, 82 Airborne as a paratrooper. He was stationed in Italy and discharged in 1948. Upon returning home, Allen worked at J Rubin Sons, the family candy manufacturing company in Chicopee MA from 1949 - 1973, after which he held various sales jobs until his retirement in 2018.
Allen married Shirley Solomon in 1957 in her native Baltimore, MD. They were happily married for nearly 55 years until her death in 2012. Allen was a member of Sinai Temple where his parents were founding members of the congregation. He enjoyed gardening, spending time at the beach, meteorology, and was an avid antique clock collector and restorer.
Allen is survived by his daughter Pam and son-in-law Charlie MacPhaul of Marietta, GA; his son Mark and daughter in law Renee of Edgewater MD; his son Scott and daughter in law Gina of Longmeadow, MA; grandsons Kevin (Kelly) MacPhaul, John Basile, Jackson Rubin and Benjamin Rubin; granddaughters Kara (Joey Cole) MacPhaul, Giulia Rubin and Danielle Basile; great grandsons Connor and Hudson MacPhaul; brother Martin Rubin of Longmeadow MA; brother Monroe Rubin of Vero Beach Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A celebration of Allen's life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in his honor to Shriner's Children's Hospital as he was a Shriner, 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104. The Ascher-Zimmerman funeral home is assisting the family.
