Memorial Service for Allen Dorris, longtime resident of Conroe, will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm in The Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors. Allen was born on May 18, 1938 to James Albert Dorris and Susie May Mitchell Dorris in Springhill, Louisiana. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 87. He will receive military honors from VFW Post 4709 Honor Guard for his service in the Air Force.
Allen served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1960. He said that was the second-best decision he ever made-the first was marrying his wife, Zepha Lou Green Dorris. They married in 1960 and lived a fulfilled life together for 66 years. He and Zepha moved their family to Conroe in 1964. Allen was soon hired by Conroe Telephone Company. He enjoyed his work there and soon advanced to a supervisory position.
Allen loved the Lord and was a fine Christian man and attended the Ark church until he became confined and the family believes he is joined by our daughter, Lisa and baby grandson, Joseph in Heaven. He loved fishing and hunting, but his favorite was baseball! An avid Astros fan and was proud that his grandson was drafted into the Big Leagues. He happily coached him from first grade until the MLB.
Allen was on a traveling team in the Air Force and was recruited and tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals. He watched baseball "all the time" and never missed any of Greg's game!
In his 40's he started jogging and was very happy and proud that he accomplished a half marathon. Allen spoke of that jog often! He and Zepha Lou traveled to many "Runs in America."
Allen had a charming and strong personality, however when he spoke it was with a degree of passion. Those who knew him loved being around him.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, James and Susie Dorris; his brother, James Dorris, his daughter, Lisa Belton and his baby grandson, Joseph.
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Zepha Lou Dorris; children, Randall Dorris, Allen E. Dorris, Jr. and Linda Evans; brothers, Noah and Gene; and sisters, Patsy, Judy and Janice. Allen is also survived by numerous wonderful grandchildren and precious great grandchildren. (too many dear ones to list)
