Mrs. Alice Spivey, 93, of Moultrie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2023, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Reverend Steve Comer and Reverend Donnie Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 PM Monday at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Alice was born in Colquitt, County on February 10, 1930, to the late Janie Fussell Miller and James Weston Miller, Sr. She graduated from Moultrie High School at the age of 17. After marriage and the raising of 5 children, she continued her education, obtaining her Associate's Degree from the University of Georgia Extension Program. Alice was employed as an Executive Secretary for a telecommunications company for many years and was later promoted to the Training Dept. as a Supervisor in Durham, NC. After retirement, she and her husband returned home to Moultrie, reconnecting to their old friends and family while rejoining their beloved church, Lakeside Assemble of God. Alice was a devoted wife, creative seamstress, a great cook, a doting grandmother, and gardening was her therapy. She believed in the power of prayer, and she loved the Lord with all her heart. In His Arms, she now rests. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Simmie Spivey; her grandson, Carlton Wright; daughter-in-law, Margie Spivey; sons-in-law, Jack Cox and Jon Thorne; siblings, Fannie Josephine Jones, Gussie Mae Thompson, Lucille Brown, Andrew Jackson Miller, Nellie Jane Cole, James Weston Miller, Jr., Joe Ellis Miller, Charlie Glenn Miller, Homer Lee Miller, Oscar Miller, Anna Merle Bozeman, John Daniel Miller, Robert E. Lee Miller and Eula Lee Turner. Survivors include her children, Judy Cox, Robert Spivey, June Shirling (William), Barbara Thorne, and Richard Spivey (Cindy); 8 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; along with a number of extended family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lakeside Assembly of God, 146 Tara St, Moultrie, GA 31768 or Enhabit Home Health Hospice, 3379 W. Main St. Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36305.
