Alice Johnson
Alice meant so much to so many of us—please feel free to share your stories and photos to this page, and invite others to do the same.
Our dear, sweet Alice Johnson (Sramek) — mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, friend — slipped away peacefully on May 8, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Augustine and Marie Sramek, Anton and Barbara Pivovar, and her parents Benjamin and Lillian Sramek.
She is survived by many who loved and appreciated her, including her husband Ken Johnson; her brothers Jim Sramek (Linda) and Tom Sramek (Joyce); her children Ray Johnson a.k.a. Jonathan Rayson (Alvin), René Johnson Harper (Stan), and Ryan Johnson (Rachael); her grandchildren Savanna, Chloe, Liam, Novella, and Levi; her great grand-babies Lux and Harlow...and Dahlia and Ivy, arriving this August.
Born in Omaha, Alice attended Rosewater Elementary and was a graduate of South High. She worked for many years as a part-time keypunch operator at Mutual of Omaha, then worked in a host of medical billing positions — and in her years before retirement, she was a cherished lunch lady. Her lifetime career and honor, however, was caring for her family...and anyone else who needed caring for along the way.
Alice Ann lived her life innocently and never lost her childlike wonder and curiosity. She was a darling even when she wasn’t...feisty, yet quick to forgive. Even through relentless health setbacks, she endeared to her all those who cared for her. She never forgot a birthday or holiday even in her final year of life, making goody bags for her grand-babies and great grand- babies she was separated from by quarantine. In her last months she worked tirelessly to keep us all in French toast. And with a conviction we hadn’t seen since her younger days, she embroidered keepsakes for each child. She also had three quilts started.
In her last moments she had what she always wanted...her family. True to who she was, she reached out for the babies and looked at them with love when nothing else seemed to rouse her. She was serene and comfortable, needing no pain medication as she melted into her family...Ray Ray singing her off with a song.
Alice, Al, Mom, Ma, Magi, Gram, Gram Cracker, Gold Gram, Lady Bug...if you met her you loved her and it’s pretty safe to say that she loved you. We were beyond blessed to be loved and mothered, all of us, by this angel of a woman.
