Alice Elaine Fritz, 88, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 surrounded by family. Born November 21, 1932 in Somerset, Alice was the first daughter of Clyde and Blanche (Stahl) Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leo Beeghly and Verle Fritz; brother Robert Walker; sister, Ruth Lape; and step-daughter, Cynthia Frankel. She left behind two brothers, George Walker (Gwen) of Utah and Kenneth Walker (Barbara) of Somerset; two daughters, Shirley Rogers (Robert) of Montana and Barbara Beeghly (John Wilt) of New Hampshire; and two sons, Blake Beeghly (Tonya Spangler) and Brian Beeghly (Amy) of Somerset; step-son, David Fritz of Pennsylvania; and step-daughter, Pam Croach (Jesse) of New Castle. She was grandmother to sixteen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great, grandchildren. She also left behind her beloved and faithful dog, Pap-Pap. A 1950 Somerset High School graduate, she was crowned maple queen in the third annual Pennsylvania Maple Festival earlier that year. On January 26, 1951, she married her first husband, Leo Beeghly, with whom she had her four children. In 1976, Alice earned her LPN degree from the Somerset Practical Nursing Program; received the Leadership Award for congeniality, self-improvement, leadership, and service from the Somerset Women's Club; and began her nursing career at the Somerset State Hospital, where she worked for seventeen years. On August 27, 1989, she married her second husband, Verle Fritz. Alice was an avid reader, enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steelers fan, travel lover and a regular Facebook follower and commenter on posts created by her family and friends. An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Alice participated in its weekly Mary and Martha Bible Study Group until her illness. She also regularly attended a monthly card club with longtime friends. No viewing or visitation a private graveside service will occur with Reverend Douglas Knupp officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.
