Alice Ann Coats Smith, 87, of Dallas, Texas passed away on October 18, 2021 in Richardson, Texas following an illness. Ann was born, August 11, 1934 in Weaver, Texas, the daughter J.D. Coats and Ola Mae Newkirk Coats. Ann was the eldest of three children. She married Douglas Dean Smith on July 9, 1966, at First Baptist Church of Dallas. She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1951 and studied accounting at Arlington State College. She had a lengthy career at Republic Insurance Company in Dallas from which she retired as an assistant vice-president. She enjoyed cooking and caring for family, always looking for ways to help others. Ann took care of her mother until her mother's death, and then looked for ways to care for her extended family. Ann raised a daughter, Carol Anne, of whom she was enormously proud. That pride continued to her granddaughter, Caroline Grace, with whom she played up until her final days. Ann was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Dallas. As her health declined, she was thankful for the opportunity to watch the services of the church she loved from home. Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Dean Smith; parents, J.D. Coats and Ola Mae Newkirk Coats; brother, Jerry Dale Coats. Ann is survived by daughter, Carol Smith Nichols (Chad Nichols) of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Trent Nichols, and Caroline Nichols; sister, Dorothy Alves (Joe Alves) of Texarkana, TX; sister-in-law, Louise Coats of Rockwall, TX; sister-in-law Jo Anne Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law Susan Ford of Galveston, TX; nieces and nephews, Traci Bowen (Don Bowen), Bill Coats, Robert Alves, Ruth Ann Coats, Bob Coats, Ritchie (Windy Smith) Smith, Kenny Smith, Chris Ford (Lindsay Ford), Kristi Rosas (Isaac Rosas); grandnephews, Chris Bowen, Jonathan Bowen, and Jacob Alves as well as numerous other beloved family and friends.
