Alfred James "Jim" Smith
Age 94
Al was born in Westhope, ND, to parents Hal Percy Smith, and Jorgina (nee Stensrud) of Ringebu, Norway.
Loving husband to the late Sylvia Constance (nee Borgen) Smith.
Survived by his children James Stephen (Marcia) Colsmith and David Joseph Smith, his sister, Kathleen - Elizabeth Kathleen Rakstad, Bismark, ND, and sister-in-law Vangy Provins.
Preceded in death by siblings Margaret Camila (Marvin) Sletten, Helen Jorgina Grubb, Pat - Hal Patrick (Dorothy) Smith, Terrance Raymond (Vangy) Smith, Chuck - William Charles (Rita) Smith, Franklin D. Smith, Dennis Doyle Smith, Robert David Smith, brother in law Robert Ivan Rakstad, along with many nephews and nieces, as well as cousins in Norway.
Raised on a farm he worked various jobs in his youth. He built grain elevators with his brothers Pat and Chuck, and brother-in-law Al Grubb, before serving in the Army in Germany during the Korean war, and then moving to Milwaukee.
Al was an Electrical Engineering graduate of MSOE, and worked his entire career at Allen Bradley.
Al was a former member of Our Saviors and Wellington Park Lutheran churches in Milwaukee.
The last 24 years he resided in rural Byron, Fond du Lac county.
He enjoyed camping, hiking, gardening and traveling. He visited all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and The Virgin Islands. He traveled in Europe as well.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Nature Conservancy are welcome.
He was a quiet and gentle soul.
Graveside remembrances, Monday, December 12th at 2:00 p.m. at Arlington Park Cemetery 4141 South 27th Street Greenfield, Wisconsin.
