Alexander Robert Brooks, 33, died on Friday, May 1, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. His death was a consequence of unexpected illness. Alex was born in Dallas on September 16, 1986. He attended the Alcuin School and the St. Mark's School of Texas and was an Eagle Scout. He received a B.S.M. in Finance and a Masters of Finance from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, where he served as an analyst at the Burkenroad Institute. Alex's years living in New Orleans were spent trying as many restaurants as possible, from Cooter Brown's to Commander's Palace, playing local golf courses and attending Tulane baseball games with friends. He also enjoyed exploring the city's museums and bookstores. Following graduation, Alex worked as a foreign currency trader. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and sports fan and was frequently selected to present his original research at the annual MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. Alex had wide-ranging interests and encyclopedic knowledge of subjects ranging from fishing to literature to cooking. He had a singular wit and sense of humor. He was a loyal friend to many, a beloved son and a wonderful brother and uncle. All will miss him greatly. Alex was one of a kind. Alex is survived by his parents, Barry Brooks and Susan Creagan; his sister, Katherine, her husband, Mark, and their son, Connor; and his aunt, Mimi Creagan, and her children, Andrew, Elizabeth, and David. He is predeceased by his namesake grandfather, Robert Creagan. A family-only service was held May 5, 2020 at St. Michael and All Angels Church in Dallas. A celebration of his life is anticipated in September. Memorial funds have been established at St. Mark's (www.smtexas.org/alexbrooks) and Alcuin (www.alcuinschool.org/philanthropy/in-memory-of-alex-brooks) for those who would like to make donations in remembrance of Alex.
