Alexander Adrian Bernal lived a short but full life. Alex was a charismatic person and made an impact on many people's lives. Alex was born on Dece. 16, 1986, in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was the youngest child of Isidro V. and Lourdes H. Bernal.Alex was born and raised in Fairbanks. As a baby and young child, he spent most of his time in Mexico with his father as they visited family and friends. This bestowed in him a great love for Mexico, his family there and his Mexican culture. Throughout his primary school years, Alex was always with his mother. He attended Hunter Elementary, which was the elementary school his mother worked at. It was during these years that they created a very close bond that lasted his lifetime. He attended Ryan Middle School and graduated from West Valley High School in 2005. He later moved to Oregon and returned to Fairbanks in 2013.Alex loved being outdoors. From a young age he enjoyed taking drives around town on motorbikes, scooters and bicycles. He always had scrapes and scratches from doing tricks on his bike or scooter. Alex was extremely tech savvy and spent quite a bit of time building computers, researching the latest technology and following the latest trends.Alex explored a career in accounting at Brice, Inc. in Fairbanks. He was well liked by his coworkers and was regarded as efficient, charming and intelligent. During the pandemic, Alex sought a job working the evenings at Chena Bingo. This was Alex's second home, and he created many close friendships with clients and coworkers. It was also during this time that Alex decided to pursue a career as a real estate agent. Alex worked closely with low income and minority homebuyers and business owners. He helped them become homeowners, buy, or sell their business properties and helped them navigate the real estate market. He had a passion for helping individuals realize their true potential. Many of his clients referred to him as being part of their family. They recognized his intelligence and his sincere desire to help others.Early this year Alex was diagnosed as bipolar. He put great effort into managing his illness while working hard at his career. His mother was with him to offer support and companionship. He referred to her as "the boss." On June 21, 2022, Alex lost his battle with mental illness and left a family that loves him dearly.Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his mother, Lourdes Hernandez Bernal of Fairbanks; his sister, Lourdes Bernal of Fairbanks, Reina Hasting (Nick) of Fairbanks and children Ryan, Vanessa, Taylor and Ian, and grandson, Raleigh Atkins; brother, Juan Bernal (Michele) of New York and son Ezekiel; sister, Linda Sobarzo (Iram Eduardo) of Fairbanks and children Citlali, Iram Alejandro, Erika, Eduardo and Enrique; cousin, Lazaro Bernal of Fairbanks and his family, and cousin, Miguel Montes de Oca of Fairbanks and his family. Alex also leaves behind family from Chicago, the United States and Mexico. Alex was preceded in death by his father, Isidro V. Bernal.A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1316 Peger Road, Fairbanks, AK 99709, followed by a reception at 4 p.m. in the Binkley Room at Pike's Waterfront Lodge, 1850 Hoselton Drive, Fairbanks, AK 99709.
