, a loving husband, father of three, and beloved coach passed away at age 51 on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
Alex was born June 6, 1969, in Brownsville, Texas to Jesus and Carol Macias. He attended Hanna High School, played collegiate soccer at Newman University (Kansas), before completing his bachelor's degree at UTB-TSC in 2005. He was a teacher and coach at Lopez Early College High School. He met Jasmine Ortiz and together they raised three children: Ryan, Melanie, and Nathan.
Alex was passionate about his family and coaching. He was the girls' varsity soccer coach at Lopez ECHS for 13 years and had many accomplishments both on and off the field.
Alex was a man of many talents including cooking, carpentry, and the game of soccer.
Hondie is survived by his grandfather, Alejandro Macias; parents, Jesus and Carol Macias; his wife, Jasmine Ortiz-Macias; his three children, Ryan (17), Melanie (14), and Nathan (10); and is also survived by his siblings: Jesus, Angelica, Juan, Elvira, Cesar, Robert, Andres, Alicia, and Luis, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Public Visiting hours will be held tomorrow, Friday, the 9th of April 2021 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville, Texas 78520. The recitation of the holy rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. within the church.
The family requests all funeral service attendees meet directly at St. Mary, Mother of the Church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, the 10th of April 2021 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church. Coach Macias will be laid to rest at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville, Texas 78521 following the funeral mass, via an escorted procession.
