Alberto Pires, 85 of Pittsfield, MA died Saturday February 6, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Pittsfield, MA on December 10, 1935, a son of Mario and Zulmira (Sequeira) Pires. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School.
Alberto (Al) was employed as a carpet installer for over 45 years, working at Haddad Rug Co., The House of Carpets and Monteleone Flooring. He was well known for the excellent work and requested by several families to install their carpeting. After retiring from carpet installing he worked at the Berkshire County Courthouse as a custodian for several years until retiring. Prior to his retirement Al and his wife Dottie owned and operated Pires Package and Variety on Wahconah Street for several years.
He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church and now attends St. Charles Church. Alberto enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling. One trip was a very special a trip to Hawaii on their 50th Anniversary.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Elizabeth "Dottie" (Crady) Pires, whom he married on April 25, 1959 and three daughters-Deborah Pires; Sarah "Sally" Carr (Paul); and Victoria Mazzer (Mark), all of Pittsfield and one son- Alberto Pires Jr. (Yvette) of Pittsfield.
He also leaves eleven grandchildren- Sean Carr, Alisha Moran (Josh), Bryan Carr (Loni), Tonya Frazier (Jason), Ryan (Erin Bigelow finance), Kyle (Godson), Makayla, Mario, Emily, Kara Pulver and JJ Pulver (Janice) and five great grandchildren- Olivya Stiles, Cayden LeClair, Jayvon Dillard, Xavier Frazier and his most recent great-grandaughter Lyra Carr who he recently held on Christmas Day both smiling at each other, and several nieces and nephews.
His brother, Frank Pires died on August 28, 2020.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Alberto Pires will be celebrated Thursday February 11, 2021 at 12 Noon and St. Charles Church. Burial will be private. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. Pittsfield, MA are Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Boys Club in care of the funeral home.
