Alberta Mae McGownd was born to Allen and Lucille Preston, on May 5, 1936, in Cabool, Missouri, and passed away May 28, 2022, at the age of 86.
Alberta went to school in Cabool, Missouri, and graduated with the Class of 1954. She was a twirler in the Cabool High School Drum Corps. Her senior year, she met Jack McGownd. They were married in Arkansas in March of 1955. To this marriage two daughters were born, Tabby and Libby.
She was baptized in 2012 and joined Rock Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Norwood, Missouri.
Alberta was an excellent homemaker and wonderful mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved spending time with her mom and dad and sisters, Thelma, Zona, and Beverly. Alberta spent a lot of time walking at the YMCA with special friends and going to flea markets with her cousin, Betty Sigman. She enjoyed mowing her yard and refinishing furniture and antiques. Alberta and Jack had a special dog called Opie, whom she loved. She also enjoyed working for the News Journal and spending time with her fellow co-workers.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, parents, Allen and Lucille Preston, and sisters, Thelma and Zona.
She is survived by her daughters, Tabby Raney and her husband, Steve, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Libby Bowie and her husband, Martin, of Port Orange, Florida, grandchildren, Jeremy Raney and his wife, Amber, and Jamie Moore and her husband, Nate, great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jay Raney and Maddison, Mykka, and Thad Moore, sister, Beverly Wilson, and many other friends and family who will miss her.
