Born in Coshocton County, Ohio, Ed was the 2nd of 4 sons born to Albert H. and Mildred F. Wilcox. His parents, two brothers and a granddaughter preceded him in death. After graduating from West Lafayette (OH) High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was schooled at the Aviation Training Center in Norman, OK and at Memphis Naval Air Station before serving on mobile flight trainers at several Naval Air Stations on the East Coast over the next few years. After his Navy discharge, he attended Kent State University and graduated from the University of Akron with a B.S. degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting.
Ed began his business career in the corporate offices of General Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, OH. He then went on to serve as Service Director of the Better Business Bureau of Akron for four years before entering the financial industry as a Branch Manager for Akron Savings and Loan Co. He retired in1994 as a Senior Vice President of Great Northern Savings Co. In retirement he was active in the real estate field in the Akron area with his wife Kathy for several years before settling in Hilton Head Island, SC.
Ed was a member of Leadership Akron Alumni Association and a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Barberton and Board Member of Goodwill Industries. He was a life-long sports enthusiast and participant. But above all, he was a proud father and grandfather.
Ed was a member of St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church on Hilton Head Island and remained active in that community in his retirement years.
Ed is survived by his wife Kathleen Wilcox; sons and daughters-in-law Eric and Linda Wilcox of OH, Todd and Arija Wilcox of MI and Brett and Colleen Wilcox of OH; Stepsons and daughter-in-law Kenneth Garman of NC, Erick and Paula Garman of OH, and stepdaughter and son-in-law Ann and Berry Payton of IN; brother Larry and sister-in-law Kay Wilcox of OH; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Hilton Head Island, SC at the Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines on Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m.
