Known to most people as Buddy, he was an avid duck, dove and deer hunter. He was also a master fisherman, serving as a fishing guide in 1952 on lakes Possum Kingdom and Texoma. At an early age, he was a pioneer in the study of the physiological and psychological characteristics of fish, primarily the Largemouth Black Bass and was an early outspoken advocate of the "catch and release" of fish and wildlife conservation. He gave programs and seminars on the scientific approach to bass fishing for many years throughout the state of Texas.
He was inducted into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 2006 and served on the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Selection Committee from 2007 until his death.
He always professed his greatest accomplishments were first accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior and secondly, his loving family and many friends.
