Albert G. Bothe, 77, of Missouri City, TX, passed away on March 24th, surrounded by family after a remarkable battle with heart disease.
Al (or Butch) was born on December 8, 1943, in Texas City, Texas, where he lived for much of his youth with his mother, Vivan List, stepfather, B.P. List, and his three sisters Joyce, Regina, and Kem. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic school and Texas City High School. In 1960 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served with an aircraft carrier Marine Detachment in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, had multiple assignments as an embassy guard, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Among his honors were the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat and two Bronze Stars for heroic achievement in a combat zone. During his time in service to our country, he met Rosemary E. Vitaro of Pittsburgh, PA, and they were married on February 4, 1967, in Tokyo, Japan. Upon his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant (E-6) from the USMC, Rosemary and Al settled in Houston, TX, where Al began his career as the General Manager of Carpet World, Inc. with Rosemary's Godfather, Vic Vitaro. They started a family with the birth of their son, Albert George "Bo" Bothe, Jr., in 1970, followed by their daughter Julia in 1973. Al's career in the carpet business spanned over 20 years as the manager and eventual owner of Carpet World. In the 1990s, he transitioned into the insurance and financial planning profession, working primarily with Mass Mutual, Principal, Lincoln Financial, and Insight Wealth Management. Al was a devout Catholic and reverently shared his faith with his family and others. In June of 1994, he was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church, first serving at St.
Francis De Sales and ending his deacon service while a member of St. Laurence. While at St. Laurence, Al worked with others to found The Society of St. John DeMatha (https://ssjd.org) following years of service ministering to prisoners in the Texas Prison system.
