Alan Joseph Beason, 66, passed away on December 4, 2021. A private family gathering for the interment will be held. A "Celebration of Life for Alan" will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the family residence on Glen Haven Drive in Shreveport from 1-4 PM.
Alan was born in Texas City, Texas on July 3,1955 to Geoffrey and Audrey Beason. He grew up there and graduated from Texas City High School in 1973 where he was Senior Class President and a student athletic trainer for
the football team.
Alan attended Baylor University and graduated with a BS degree in Biology and MS in Gerontology. In college, his love of flying gave him the opportunity to be a co-pilot of Baylor University's Executive airplane. As a graduate student, he was selected to teach several freshman Biology classes. While at Baylor, Alan met his future wife, Jennifer.
After graduation, Alan and Jennifer moved to Shreveport, LA where he began his career in medical group management with Willis-Knighton Hospital and later, Steen-Hall Eye Institute. In 1996, Alan joined Cardiovascular Consultants to serve as their CEO/Administrator. In 2020, he became CEO of the Bone & Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge.
Alan became a member of the MGMA (Medical Group Management Association) in 1996, and it soon became his passion. This led him to develop educational programs for medical practice administrators and executives. Alan
served as the MGMA representative to the UnitedHeathcare National Physician Advisory Committee, the MGMA Southern Section and the Louisiana MGMA Board. He co-authored two Louisiana laws
that provided administrative simplification to the provider credentialing process. Alan also served as the Board Chair for the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) during 2009-2010. In 2015, in recognition of all his efforts to support MGMA, he was awarded its highest national honor - The Harry J. Harwick Lifetime Achievement Award - which is given for outstanding contributions to healthcare management.
Alan was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Beason. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jennifer Beason; his sons: Gregory Beason (Kelli) of Temple, TX and granddaughter, Aspen Beason; and Christopher Beason of Shreveport, LA. He is also survived by his father, Geoffrey Beason and his wife, Wynell of Southside, AL.
Special thanks to his long time "flying" buddies, Ed Rafferty, Gray Teekell and Dr. Mike Futrell. Flying was his hobby, and he enjoyed just meeting at the airport to discuss flying or going up to play in the sky.
Also, a very special thank you to all of Alan's friends and colleagues he made through his workings with MGMA/ACMPE. His time with everyone was truly special and he always look forward to each annual conference so that he could catch up with his friends. His family appreciates each and every text, email or phone call during this time.
The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge for all the care they gave Alan and also the wonderful support they gave his wife and sons during that time.
