Agustin David Becerra-Reyes, "jack of all trades, master of none," passed away at the age of 85 in Grand Junction, CO. He was born to Eduardo Becerra and Francisca Reyes in Pachuca Hidalgo, Mexico, and spent his childhood in Mexico City. In 1954, he moved to Grand Junction, CO, and he married Pauline Reyes on July 17 of that year. He obtained his GED from Mesa College and was a devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Augustin cared deeply for his community, and had an extensive career. He worked as an executive director for Colorado West Community Action Agency (September 1, 1974 to October 31, 1977) as well as for ComAct Housing Corporation (February 20, 1971 to present); a Housing and Supplemental Food Program director (February 1, 1971 to August 31, 1974); owner of Reyes Restaurant (March 1971 to present); a Watkins product dealer (1969 to 1970); a community projects developer and Neighborhood Center coordinator at Mesa County, Community Action Programs (November 1, 1968 to 1969, December 1967 to November 1968); an assistant manager and photo lab technician at Rainbow Photo (1965 to 1967); a Spanish language director, producer, and announcer at KREX International Radio Program, Recurdos Mexicanos (1972 to present); a KWSL Radio Announcer (1961 to 1969); a truck driver and laborer for the Grand Junction, CO branch of S&M Supply Company (1957 to 1965); a uranium miner at Temple Mountain, Utah (1954 to 1956); a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 270; a state chairman and vice-chairman of Rocky Mountain (Colorado) Community Action Association (1976 to 1977); a member and second vice-chairman of Colorado Housing Counseling Coalition (to present); a member of the League of United Latin American Citizens; a board of directors and committee membership chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Grand Junction, CO (1972 to 1975, 1969 to 1972); a board member of the Chipeta Girl Scout Council (1971 to 1975); a board member of the Historical Museum and Institute of Western Colorado (1971 to 1976); a board member of Goodwill Industries (1971 to 1975); a supporting member of Welfare Rights Organization (1971 to 1974); a Western Slope board member and chairman of the Colorado Migrant Council (1971 - 1974; 1970-1971); a past board member of the Boys' Club of America and the Community Action Council; a member of the Cooperative Area Manpower Planning Commission (CAMPS); an institutional rep. and past member of the Cub Scouts of America; a central committee (past) member of the Democratic Party of Mesa County; a top delegate for the Primary State Senate Election and past member of the Precinct Committeemen; a member of the El Poso Improvement Association (El Poso Section, Grand Junction); a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles; a past member of the Head Start Advisory Board); a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees); president and board of directors member for the Latin-Anglo Alliance of Grand Junction (1963, 1966, 1967); a voluntary probation officer at the Municipal Court; and an advisory board member at the Parks and Recreation Department of Grand Junction.
Augustin had many hobbies. He enjoyed music, golf, travel, watching soccer and football (especially the Broncos), word puzzles fishing, and making CDs with custom music for family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Eduardo Becerra; mother, Francisca Reyes; sister, Maria de los Angeles Garcia Reyes; and brother, hermanito Coco. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Reyes of Grand Junction, CO; his sons, Julio (Debbie) Reyes of Grand Junction, CO; his daughters, Rita (Richard) Lucero and Sandra (Erasmo) Mu?iz, both of Grand Junction, CO; and his brothers, Francisco Cuevas and Marco Antonio (Rocio) Garcia, both of Mexico City, Mexico.
A visitation will take place Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A Rosary Service will begin at 7pm. A Catholic Memorial Service will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11am.
