Agnes H. Para, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Pittsfield and lifelong resident, she was born on November 20, 1923 to Casmir and Stella Skowronski. She attended local schools; leaving high school to help take care of her family. She worked as an assembler at General Electric Defense, retiring in the early 1980's. Agnes' pride and joy were her beautiful granddaughters, Sarah, Amanda, Ashley Armstrong, and Lacy Para. She enjoyed attending all of their sporting events to cheer them on. Family was everything to Agnes. She hosted many family picnics through the years. She enjoyed being surrounded by her brothers and sister, and their extended families. Agnes loved to play cards and reminisce about the "good old days" with her siblings. During the holidays, she took pride in spending time with her daughter and three granddaughters at their annual cookie day and teaching them how to make their favorite Polish dishes.
In her younger years Agnes enjoyed going out dancing with her friends, playing golf and was part of a bowling league. She looked forward to the annual Polish Picnic held at Holy Family Parish and St. Joseph's Church. She enjoyed polka dancing, listening to the big band music and eating/cooking authentic Polish food. She enjoyed preparing Sunday dinners for her family. One of the many things she enjoyed was sharing bites of her meals with her grand puppies, Riley, Cooper and Finnigan who adored her dearly.
She was a communicate of Holy Family Parish where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality. She was also a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She was married to her late husband Frank A. Para for 47 years.
She is survived by her son Francis Para and his wife Susan and their daughter Lacy Para and sons Nik Cantu and Sky Cantu; her daughter Patricia Armstrong and her husband Timothy, and their daughters Sarah Staples and her husband Michael Staples, Amanda Armstrong and Ashley Armstrong. She is also survived by her brother Frank Skowronski and sister Helen Trapani and her husband Anthony along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Frank A. Para on January 18, 2009, and by her brothers Ted, Matthew, Walter, Adam, Edward, and Joseph.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Mount Carmel Care Center and their team of healthcare providers that cared for Agnes during her time with them. They would also like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care she received from Dr. Aryal, Dr. Parasram, and her nurses, Barb, Jason, Lauren and Kristen on the 4 West Oncology Floor.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held TUESDAY, October 19, 2021 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held MONDAY, October 18, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home.
