Adrian J. Nugteren, 85, of New Carlisle, passed away on Saturday February 3, 2018 in his home. He was born on June 14, 1932, in Colton, SD, to the late Adrian Joe and Mary (Johannah) Nugteren. On January 8, 1957 he married Emily Nation, who preceded him in death on September 27, 2011. He is survived by his three daughters, Leisa Nugteren Knecht of New Carlisle, Lori Deutscher of Burlington, WI and Amy Jaye of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Adriane (Ben) Henrich, Danielle (Edmund) Abel, Brent Deutscher, Shannon Deutscher, Amanda (Sayeed) Zaman, Ashlie Knecht and Zachary (Nanette) Knecht; 14 great-grandchildren, Eddie, Miles, Ellis, Riley, Elias, Kaden, Kaiya, Meah, Trinity, Quinlan, Evanna, Sarina, Oliva, and Wyatt; and by three brothers, Marion (Katie) Nugteren of Paw Paw, MI ,Don (Carol) Nugteren of Sioux Falls, SD and Jim (Janette) Nugteren of Canistota, SD. Mr. Nugteren was employed by the Federal Government as an Air Traffic Controller for 31 years (working for the South Bend Airport), before retiring in 1986. He loved to fish and hunt and he loved the great outdoors. He passionately loved his wife and children. He adored his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren were the light of his life. Adrian was an United States Air Force Veteran and a strong Patriot, who loved his country. He was a member of the New Carlisle United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He loved his church family greatly and supported the church in many ways. Adrian made a beautiful flower garden in memory of his loving wife, Emily at the entryway of the church for all to enjoy. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. EST Friday February 9, 2018 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EST Saturday February 10, 2018 at the New Carlisle United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Olive Chapel Cemetery.
