Adolph Latz, Jr., 92, of Palmyra, PA passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
He was the widower of Elizabeth Ann (Keating) Latz, to whom he was married for 62 years.
Born in Windber, PA on March 31, 1930, he was a son of the late Adolph, Sr. and Ethel May (Bense) Latz.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War having served as an airborne air controller with Squadron VC-12 and was awarded Combat Aircrew Wings. His service included cruises aboard the USS Coral Sea and USS Lake Champlain with some 25 airborne missions.
A graduate of Windber Public Schools and the University of Pittsburgh, he did post graduate work at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was granted permanent teacher certification in 1966.
He retired as the Director of the Hiram G. Andrews Rehabilitation Center in Johnstown, PA after having been employed there as a Vocational Director and Instructor. At Harrisburg State Hospital, he was Assistant Director of Clinical Support Services for six years in the 1970's. With the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation in Harrisburg, he co-authored the State Plan and was planning administrator for five years. His total state retirement credit was some 30 years.
He was a member and baseball coach with the Hershey Baseball Association in the early 1970's, as well as a committee man with Boy Scout Troop 210 in Hershey. A former service officer and 56-year member of the Hershey American Legion, he also enjoyed the friendship and company as an active participant at Palmyra New York Fitness.
He is survived by his sons Wade A., husband of Olivia M. Latz of Annville, David A., husband of Barbara L. Latz of Palmyra, and Craig A. Latz of Enola; sister Cora Schroyer of Davidsville; grandchildren Amanda, Benjamin, Samuel, and Alyssa; and great grandchildren Piper and Isabelle.
He was preceded in death by a brother William Latz and sister Jane Zack.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family with interment in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
